Mike McCarthy Will Not Coach In 2019 But Plans To Return in 2020
Mike McCarthy

Mike McCarthy was fired by the Green Bay Packers earlier this season and since then, the Super Bowl-winning coach has been looking for a job. McCarthy made his intentions clear, according to ESPN, saying that he only wanted to coach the New York Jets in 2019 and since he won't be getting that job, he's going to wait for 2020 before seeking another gig.

"I'll be locked and loaded and ready to go for next year," McCarthy explained to ESPN. "We looked at everything, and it was either New York or stay out. That was our outlook. My family's excited. We were eating dinner when I got the message [about the Jets], and they all started cheering. So it was kind of funny. I think it tells you where they're at."

McCarthy coached in Green Bay for 12 seasons and finished with a record of 135-85-2. This included a Super Bowl winning season in 2011 and eight straight playoff appearances. McCarthy had been fired with four games left in the season after a poor start but is still on contract until 2019 where he is slated to make $8 million.

The former Packers coach refused to interview with the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN.

The New York Jets will reportedly hire former Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.
